Vol. 388 No. 5

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

115.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will make an early decision on the disability benefit application of a person (details supplied) in County Laois.

121.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason for the delay in dealing with the disability benefit application of a person (details supplied) in County Laois.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 115 and 121 together.

The person concerned appealed against a decision to disallow payment of disability benefit. An appeals officer held an oral hearing in the case on 2 March 1989. As the person concerned had previously been in receipt of occupational injury benefit the appeals officer wished to review the documentation relating to that claim before making a decision on the appeal before him. These papers were duly furnished to the appeals officer and he has now decided that the person concerned was capable of work and is not entitled to be paid disability benefit from 26 September 1988.

The person concerned has been advised of the appeals officer's decision.
