Vol. 389 No. 3

Written Answers. - Jobsearch Programme.

29.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will give details of the success of the Jobsearch programme in helping unemployed people to either find employment or a place on a training course; and the number of persons who were interviewed in relation to this programme since it was established.

Since the establishment of the Jobsearch programme in April 1987 and up to the end of March 1989, a total of 212, 152 persons have been interviewed under the programme. Of these over 12,600 have been placed in employment and almost 97,000 have been placed in Manpower schemes, Mainline training courses or on Jobsearch courses.

I am satisfied that the programme has been a significant success as a service of assistance to the unemployed, especially the long term unemployed.
