asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the monthly average of (a) the world spot price of crude oil and (b) the world spot price of petrol for each month since January 1987, to date.
Written Answers. - Oil Prices.
The spot prices quoted are those published by Platts Oilgrams. This is the source of the prices used in the calculation of Irish wholesale and retail prices.
Because of the range of crude prices available worldwide Brent (North Sea) prices have been used as being most appropriate to Ireland.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the value of the change in the landed dollar price per tonne of petrol allowed to the oil companies under the existing price formula at each of the monthly reviews in 1989; and the value and date of the changes which were permitted on foot of those monthly reviews.
As the Deputy will be aware the price used in the formula for calculating wholesale and retail prices is the mean of the monthly average low and high prices for petrol for North West Europe for the month prior to that in which the review is taking place. These prices are published by Platts Oilgrams. The Deputy will be aware that apart from this element other changes take place which affect wholesale and retail prices. Since January 1989 the following changes have taken place:
