asked the Minister for Defence his views on whether the decision to send a second bomb disposal unit to Lebanon is recognition of a deterioration in the situation in the region and one which changes the role of the Irish UNIFIL contingent; and if the changing role will be reflected in the remuneration of the Army personnel serving in Lebanon.

, Limerick West): The decision to augment the bomb disposal capability of the Irish battalion serving with UNIFIL arises from a review of the position regarding the battalion. There is no change in the role of the battalion.
