Vol. 390 No. 2

Written Answers. - Drogheda Contract.

62.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason for the continuing delay in giving sanction for the contract at Scarlet Street, Drogheda, County Louth, to go to tender in view of the fact that all the relevant details have been supplied to his Department some time ago by the officials of Drogheda Corporation; if his attention has been drawn to the terrible condition of this roadway which is causing widespread damage to cars, cyclists and pedestrians; when sanction will be given; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

At the request of my Department, the local authority are revising a number of clauses in the contract documents for this scheme. Construction work on the scheme will commence as soon as the formalities of the tender procedures have been completed. A special road grant of £100,000 has been notified to the local authority to meet costs arising in 1989.
