asked the Minister for Labour the reasons FÁS training allowances for under 18s did not increase in line with social welfare increases.

FAS training allowances for under 18s were not increased in 1988 in line with social welfare increases as they are not directly linked to social welfare payments. I announced in the Dáil on 26 January 1989, during the course of the debate on the budget, that allowances for under 18s were being increased by 3 per cent. The increased rates will be payable from 24 July 1989.
