Vol. 390 No. 6

Written Answers. - Naas (Kildare) Athletic Club.

49.

asked the Minister for Education if she has received an application from Naas Athletic Club, County Kildare, for grant aid from the proceeds of the national lottery; if she will give favourable consideration to this request in the near future having regard to the works already undertaken and commitments entered into by the club; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

My Department received an application in February 1988 from Naas Athletic Club, County Kildare, for the provision of an athletic track at Caragh Road, Naas. As the athletic club is a member of the Naas Recreational Facilities Committee who are sponsoring the local sports centre project which has been allocated a capital grant of £300,000, it was not possible to allocate a grant to the athletic club itself.

It would be a matter for the facilities committee in consultation with the athletic club to include proposals for works to the athletic track in its submission to my Department for the local sports centre project.
