Vol. 391 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Written Answers. - Tallaght (Dublin) New Industry Park.

16.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will make a statement indicating the progress which has been made with the proposed new industry park for Tallaght, Dublin 24; and if he will give particulars of the steps that have been taken to market this park indicating the results which have been obtained so far, the projects which are committed or being discussed or when construction works will get underway.

In this year's budget a special allocation of £3.5 million was made for the development of a business park at Whitestown Industrial Estate in Tallaght, the development to include the construction of a 30,000 sq. ft. small business centre, and a 40,000 sq. ft. advance factory. Since then a considerable amount of work has been undertaken on the site development and construction of the small business centre, which is on schedule for completion in January 1990.

Work on the advance factory and general site development was delayed due to an objection lodged by a third party. I have been informed by the IDA that this problem has now been resolved and that work will proceed in the near future.

The IDA have assured me that they are vigorously promoting all these facilities for suitable projects, both overseas and indigenous. A full-time manager with special responsibility for Tallaght has been appointed to promote and market the business park facilities. In addition an economic development committee comprising representatives of local businesess, community associations and State organisations has been appointed to help develop the local economy.

The Deputy will appreciate that proposals by individual companies to establish in Tallaght, or elsewhere are a day to day matter for the IDA and are a matter in which I have no ministerial responsibility.
