Vol. 391 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Written Answers. - Tallaght Labour Exchange.

21.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if his attention has been drawn to the fact that arrangements at the labour exchange in West Park, Tallaght, Dublin 24, are inadequate for coping with the numbers of people having recourse there; that an appalling inconvenience is being caused both to people having recourse to this centre and also to the residents at West Park; if he has any proposals in the matter to remedy the difficulty and to provide alternative more suitable premises; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The premises at West Park, to which the Deputy refers in his question, are a signing centre only and were provided for the convenience of local claimants. Payments are made in the local post office.

The opening of a new and enlarged employment exchange which will provide a full range of services, is included in my Department's plans for Tallaght. To this end the Office of Public Works are at present considering options for securing premises that will enable a suitable employment exchange to be provided in Tallaght town centre.

I am fully committed to continuing the policy which I have been following of locating new offices incorporating the most modern designs and latest technology to bring the services of my Department to applicants in the areas in which they reside.
