Vol. 391 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Written Answers. - County Dublin Local Authorities.

39.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will make a statement on the desirability of separate local authority status for the town of Tallaght, Dublin 24, indicating whether he and the Government favour the granting of such status to enable the people of Tallaght to control their own local administration; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

40.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is satisfied with the present organisation of local government in County Dublin; whether he proposes any new separate authorities within the county; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 39 and 40 together.

The question of local government structures in any area, including the Dublin area, is a matter which now falls to be considered in the context of the proposal to establish a select committee of the Oireachtas to examine and report on the whole question of local authority funding, structures and functions.
