Vol. 391 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Written Answers. - County Kildare Local Authority Housing.

44.

asked the Minister for the Environment the present position regarding the special scheme to reconstruct the local authority houses at Dara Park, Newbridge, County Kildare; when the scheme will be completed; if and when the benefits of this scheme can be extended to similar houses in Celbridge, Maynooth and Kilcock; if an evaluation of those houses has taken place; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I approved Kildare County Council's proposal for the acceptance of a tender in respect of Phase 2 of the remedial works project to the Dara Park housing estate on 10 August 1988 and I have allocated £220,000 to the council this year in respect of the carrying out of the work. The level of funding that can be provided for future phases of this work will depend on the annual amount of capital available and the competing demands of authorities. The initiation of proposals for assistance under the remedial works scheme is a matter for the local authority concerned and any applications submitted by the council in respect of the other estates mentioned by the Deputy will be considered in the normal way.
