Vol. 391 No. 6

Written Answers. - Inquiry Into Bribery Allegations.

54.

asked the Minister for Justice the nature of the inquiry, if any, being conducted by the Garda into bribery allegations regarding planning decisions made; when the inquiry will be completed; and whether the results of the inquiry will be published.

I can confirm that an investigation is being conducted by the Garda into allegations of the kind referred to in the question. However, it is not the practice for Ministers for Justice to be in any way specific about the nature of particular Garda investigations, save in singular instances where the circumstances are so exceptional that such a course is deemed appropriate.

The results of Garda investigations are, in the normal course, passed to the Director of Public Prosecutions for a decision as to whether court proceedings are warranted.
