Vol. 392 No. 1

Written Answers. - Replacement of Defective Chimneys-Fireplaces.

271.

asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the fact that residents of dwellings (details supplied) in County Dublin who are in the process of purchasing their houses and whose chimneys-fireplaces have proved to be defective and have to be replaced have been notified by the local authority that they must bear half the cost of the work involved, in spite of the fact that tenants of these houses have had their chimneys-fireplaces replaced free of charge.

Under the terms of the remedial works scheme, the maximum level of grant assistance payable by my Department to local authorities in respect of eligible works to tenant purchased dwellings is 50 per cent with the balance of the cost falling to be met by any tenant purchaser availing of the scheme.
