Vol. 392 No. 1

Written Answers. - Secondary School Places.

334.

asked the Minister for Education the projected number of pupils in the Hartstown area of Clonsilla, Dublin 15, who will be seeking secondary school places in each of the years from 1993 to 1997 inclusive; the plans she has to provide for secondary school places for those children in the area; when the planning process for a new second-level school will commence; when construction will commence; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The number of pupils in the Hartstown area who are likely to be seeking secondary school places in each of the years from 1993 to 1997, based on current primary school enrolments is as follows:— 1993, 100; 1994, 117; 1995, 113; 1996, 112; 1997, 118.

My Department are satisfied that there is adequate and accessible post-primary accommodation available in Blanchardstown and in adjoining areas for pupils from the Hartstown area seeking post-primary education.

The question of whether a new post-primary school should be provided on the site owned by my Department at Hartstown is being kept under review in the light of the most up-to-date statistics available. Any decisions on the future provision of post-primary accommodation for the Hartstown area will be taken by me in the light of these reviews.

The commencement of the planning process for a new school does not, therefore, arise at this stage.
