Vol. 392 No. 1

Written Answers. - Transport of Deaf Pupils.

347.

asked the Minister for Education if she will provide financial assistance towards provision of transport to two pupils (details supplied) attending Our Lady's School for Hearing Impaired, Douglas, Cork; and if transport will be arranged between Ballybunion and Tralee on Mondays and Fridays.

The two pupils referred to by the Deputy are being provided with a school bus transport service at the expense of my Department between Tralee and Cork for a journey to Cork on Monday mornings and from Cork to Tralee on Friday evenings, to enable them to attend the special school referred to on a residential Monday to Friday basis. An application from the parent of one of the pupils has been acceded to for a cash grant towards the cost of making private transport arrangements for the journeys at weekends between Tralee and Ballybunion. There is no record of an application for similar treatment in respect of the other pupil but the Deputy may take it that such application if received would be favourably considered.
