Vol. 392 No. 1

Written Answers. - Belgard (Tallaght) School Personnel.

351.

asked the Minister for Education if arrangements will be made to provide a remedial teacher and an additional ordinary teacher for Scoil Árd Mhuire, Belgard, Tallaght, Dublin 24; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

357.

asked the Minister for Education if arrangements will be made to meet the requests from Scoil Árd Mhuire, Belgard, Tallaght, Dublin 24, as indicated in their representations (details supplied) dated 10 October 1989; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 351 and 357 together.

This school has a staff of 19 (principal plus 16 assistants, remedial teacher and resource teacher).

The staffing of national schools is determined by the enrolment in the school on 30 September of the previous year. This is in accordance with the agreement reached between the Government and the INTO, under the Programme for National Recovery. In the case of Scoil Árd Mhuire there were 568 pupils enrolled on 30 September 1988.

Under these arrangements the appointment of a 17th assistant is not warranted at present.
