asked the Minister for Finance his views on the conclusion of the recent OECD economic survey on Ireland that the fiscal cost of the income tax relief on VHI contributions is in the region of £50 million.

The cost to the Exchequer of income tax relief on medical insurance (VHI) contributions in terms of tax foregone in respect of the year ending 5 April 1990 is estimated at £51 million.
