Vol. 392 No. 3

Written Answers. - Vocational Education Act, 1930.

165.

asked the Minister for Education if she will list the schools which have been approved by her for the purposes of compliance with section 62 (2) of the Vocational Education Act, 1930.

166.

asked the Minister for Education the areas of the country to which Part V of the Vocational Education Act, 1930 concerning compulsory vocational education has been applied.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 165 and 166 together.

In the thirties and forties it was stipulated by ministerial orders that Part V of the Vocational Education Act, 1930, applied to the county boroughs of Cork, Limerick and Waterford. These orders were revoked by S.I. No. 23 of 1973, Vocational Education Act, 1930 (Miscellaneous Orders and Regulations) (Revocation) Order, 1973.

Accordingly, the question of approving schools for the purposes of Part V of the Vocational Education Act, 1930, does not arise.

167.

asked the Minister for Education if she has, in the past ten years, made any orders under Section 4 (2) of the Vocational Education Act, 1930 extending the application of the expression "technical education" to new subjects; if so, the purpose of such orders; if not, if failure to make such orders has in any way inhibited the introduction of new subjects in vocational schools; and if she has received any representations for the making of such orders.

Neither I nor my predecessors has in the past ten years made any orders under section 4 (2) of the Vocational Education Act, 1930, extending the application of the expression "technical education" to new subjects. This has not had any adverse consequences for the introduction of new subjects in vocational schools. I have not received any representations for the making of such orders. However, as the Deputy will be aware, all second level schools including vocational schools have been most progressive with the introduction of new subjects.
