Vol. 392 No. 3

Written Answers. - Ballyfermot (Dublin) Smoke Control Zone.

107.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he accepts that the 34 persons in smoke control zone A, Ballyfermot, Dublin 10 who installed the full burning fire did so in accordance with the ministerial order creating that particular zone, if he will approve the payment of the grants in that particular zone; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Air Pollution Act, 1987 (Authorised Fireplace) Regulations, 1988 (S.I. No. 297 of 1988) provide that the fireplace known as the full burning fire open fire boiler is an authorised fireplace for the purposes of the Special Control Area (Ballyfermot) Order, 1988.

The administration of the scheme of financial assistance made under section 45 of the Air Pollution Act, 1987, in respect of the Ballyfermot special control area is a matter for Dublin Corporation. I understand from the corporation that no grants have been approved in respect of the installation of the full burning fire in the area. It is a condition of the grants scheme that works shall not commence until applications have been approved. Accordingly, the question of payment does not arise.
