Vol. 392 No. 3

Written Answers. - Cost of Implementing Recommendations.

127.

asked the Minister for Education the approximate cost of implementing the recommendations of the Working Party on the Primary Curriculum and the Disadvantaged Child; and her views on the usefulness of the report in the absence of such costings.

The costing of the recommendations of the working party was not undertaken in detail.

However, many of the recommendations have been implemented through the operation of the scheme of teaching assistance for schools in disadvantaged areas and the scheme of financial assistance to schools in such areas.

The estimated cost in 1989 of the teaching assistance scheme is £1.53 million.

Provision for £0.5 million has been made for the scheme of financial assistance.
