149.

asked the Minister for Education if the Intermediate Education (Ireland) Act, 1878 is, in any respect, still governing the work of, or operated by, her Department; and if so, if she will give details thereof.

150.

asked the Minister for Education if she or her predecessors have made rules governing examinations and curricula under the authority of section 6 of the Intermediate Education (Ireland) Act, 1878; if so, if she has complied in each case with the provisions of subsection (10) of that section which requires the laying of such rules before Dail Eireann; and, if not, if she will indicate the statutory authority under which she otherwise makes rules governing examinations and curricula.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 144, 145, 149 and 150 together.

The Rules for Secondary Schools, which include rules relating to examinations, are made in pursuance of the Intermediate Education (Ireland) Acts, 1878 to 1924, and are normally presented to the Dáil and Seanad each year in the Autumn session.

There would not appear to be any requirement under section 6 (10) of the Intermediate Education (Ireland) Act to present syllabus material to Dáil Éireann.
