Vol. 392 No. 8

Written Answers. - Dublin Area Primary School Teachers.

117.

asked the Minister for Education the number of teachers on the panel of teachers for primary schools in the Dublin area; the deployment patterns of those who were able to take up work from the panel during the previous 12 months; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The diocesan panels for the Dublin area are clear at present. There were 182 primary teachers placed on the panels for re-deployment with effect from September 1989. The panel lists were issued in April 1989.

Eighty-five teachers from the panels were redeployed to other posts in national schools in the Dublin diocesan area. Ninety-one teachers deferred their panel rights in order to avail of career breaks, or to replace teachers in their existing schools who had availed of career breaks. Six teachers were exempted from the panel and were not required to be redeployed in the current school year.
