Vol. 393 No. 5

Written Answers. - County Mayo National School.

122.

asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the fact that children attending a national school (details supplied) in County Mayo have not been in attendance at school for over 12 months; her views on this situation; whether she intends that the school in question will be open; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

In view of the low enrolments — two pupils only remaining — and the fact that there are no pre-school children on the island, my Department decided that the continuance of the Inisbiggle national school was not warranted.

As the Deputy will be aware maintenance grants are, of course, available for these pupils for the educational facilities on the mainland.
