Vol. 393 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Visits of Heads of Government.

7.

asked the Taoiseach if he has invited any Heads of Government to visit Ireland in the next 12 months.

In accordance with international practice, the announcement of visits by Heads of Government is usually made in both capitals at a time agreed between the two governments concerned. Prior to any such announcement, it would be inappropriate for me to comment on any proposed visit.

I understand the requirements of protocol and the Taoiseach's reticence to give me some specifics but could I ask him, taking the new European situation into account, if he envisages having any meetings in particular with the Heads of the neutral countries in Europe but also perhaps with the leaders of Eastern European Governments? Has this been considered?

Yes, I would anticipate that meetings of that kind are fairly likely.
