Vol. 393 No. 8

Written Answers. - Land Commission Annuities.

114.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the moneys which have been paid through Land Commission annuities in the years 1988/1989 and 1989/1990; and the moneys outstanding which could be collected.

The amount of Land Commission annuities paid in 1988 was £5.14 million. Figures are not available for the current year but on the basis of results to date, it is expected that payments for 1989 will total some £4.9 million excluding £0.35 million written off earlier this year in respect of 68,000 small annuities which are no longer economic to collect.

Cumulative arrears at 30 September 1989, the latest date for which such information is available, stood at £4.01 million and a more efficient system of collection will be put in place shortly.
