Vol. 393 No. 10

Written Answers. - Resignation of ERAD Chairman.

40.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will give details of the full circumstances regarding the resignation of the Chairman of ERAD (details supplied); and reason he resigned; if he intends to investigate allegations of violations of EC superlevy rules by him; when he will appoint a successor, given the important work carried out by ERAD; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The circumstances surrounding the former Chairman's resignation are public knowledge. In tendering his resignation he said that he had been drawn into what is apparently a public controversy and that he felt that this could reflect on the vital national campaign, being carried out by ERAD, for the eradication of bovine animal diseases.

There is no evidence that he has contravened the regulations on the operation of the superlevy system in this country.

I hope to appoint a new chairman of ERAD shortly.
