Vol. 394 No. 1

Written Answers. - Motorised Access to Howth, (Dublin) Pier.

102.

asked the Minister for the Marine the steps he proposes to take to prevent access to vehicles which often travel at great speed down the east pier in Howth, Dublin 13, having regard to the fact that the present locking device has proved to be totally inadequate; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The present locking device preventing unauthorised motorised access to the East Pier in Howth harbour has proved very adequate and has met with the approval of port users since its installation in July of this year. Recently, a granite bollard to which one end of the locking device was affixed collapsed, apparently following abuse. Arrangements are in train for the replacement of the bollard by a steel post, and this should be done shortly.
