asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the proportion of annual returns to the Companies Office which are up to date; the number of companies struck off in the past year; the number of prosecutions pending for failure to make returns; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Forty-six per cent of companies are up to date in filing annual returns. In the 12 months to 1 December 1989, 14,434 companies were struck off the register. Court proceedings have been instituted against 156 companies in respect of 348 offences under the Companies Act, 1963, for failure to file annual returns.
