Vol. 394 No. 1

Written Answers. - Orthodontic Treatment.

200.

asked the Minister for Health if he intends to make additional funds available to the Southern Health Board for urgent cases of orthodontic treatment, in view of the long waiting list in that health board area.

I was pleased to announce recently that the Government has made an additional £300,000 available to the health board orthodontic service, which has permitted orthodontic treatment to begin immediately on 500 top priority cases drawn from the eight health boards. I am aware that there is a need to provide further additional funds for the health board dental services. I would hope to be in a position to make some additional resources available as soon as possible in order to bring about an improvement in the health board dental service, including the orthodontic service.
