Vol. 394 No. 6

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Payments.

93.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason a person (details supplied) in Dublin 7 who is in receipt of unemployment assistance and who went to visit her ill sister in England for a week, having first informed her employment exchange, was refused payments when she returned; if he will ensure that all payments due to her are paid; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Persons in receipt of unemployment assistance are entitled to be absent from the State for two weeks in each calendar year, on holiday or otherwise without their entitlement to assistance being affected.

Although the person concerned exhausted 11 days of her 12 days holiday entitlement from 10 July to 21 July 1989, it has been decided, following a review of the reasons for her failure to prove unemployment for the period 23 November to 4 December, to allow her to sign the unemployed register retrospectively for this period. The arrears due to her will be paid next week.
