Vol. 394 No. 6

Written Answers. - Average Industrial Wage.

73.

asked the Minister for Finance the average industrial wage for the latest date for which it is available; the total average cost to an employer of paying the average industrial wage plus associated overheads, such as employers' PRSI; and if he will list the main components of such overheads.

The average weekly earnings of an industrial worker employed in manufacturing in March 1989 were estimated by the Central Statistics Office as £209.70. Employer's PRSI on the same would amount to £25.58 per week. It is not possible to estimate the cost of other overheads as these would depend on the nature of the business in which the employee works.
