Vol. 394 No. 8

Written Answers. - Return of Emigrants.

Jim Higgins

Question:

26 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Taoiseach the estimated number of emigrants who returned to this country for the Christmas holiday period; the countries from which such emigrants returned; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

In the week to 26 December last some 155,000 passengers entered Ireland by sea and air. The number of emigrants who returned on holidays cannot be determined from the total number of arrivals by air and sea over the Christmas period since that total covers all arrivals by air and sea, whatever their purpose or nationality.
