Question:

462 Mr. McCartan asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport the action which will be taken by him to make amends to or compensate the victims of the train derailment at Castlebar, County Mayo on 24 September 1989 where 80 people were injured, 12 of them seriously; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Minister has no statutory function in relation to the making of amends to or compensating the victims of railways accidents.
