Vol. 394 No. 8

Written Answers. - Ambulance and Transport Services.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

76 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Health if he has any plans to upgrade ambulance and transport services on a national basis.

The provision of ambulance services is a matter for each health board in the first instance.

Under the 1970 Health Act, health boards may provide such services. The eight health boards provide funding for ambulance services throughout the country from their own allocations. I am having discussions with the boards on the transport services generally and every effort will be made to strengthen and improve those services as the need arises in each health board area.
