Vol. 395 No. 1

Written Answers. - Third Level Grants Payments.

John Browne

Question:

48 Mr. Browne (Carlow-Kilkenny) asked the Minister for Education when she will make a decision on the payment of third level grants to applicants from County Carlow.

Administration of the higher education grants scheme is statutorily entrusted to the local authorities.

In general, I understand that arrangements for the payment of grants to eligible students in County Carlow are operating without any difficulties.

However, grants have been refused by the Carlow County Council to a small number of applicants whose reckonable income has been assessed by the council to be in excess of the limits for the award of a grant.

I am having further inquiries made in relation to the cases in question.
