Vol. 395 No. 1

Written Answers. - County Donegal National School.

Patrick D. Harte

Question:

69 Mr. Harte asked the Minister for Education if she will make a statement on proposals for St. Patrick's National School, Murlog, Lifford, County Donegal which are urgently needed to bring the school up to a reasonable standard and which is causing grave concern among parents, teachers and children.

I am aware of the situation in relation to St. Patrick's national school, Murlog, County Donegal, and I have approved a major project for the school. It is proposed to provide an extension of five classrooms and a remedial room and the existing building will be adapted so as to provide three standard classrooms, a staff room and stores. In November 1989 an outline sketch plan was sent to the school authorities who made a number of observations thereon. The whole matter was discussed last week at a meeting in Murlog between officials of my Department and the school authorities including the teachers' and parents' representatives. Agreement was reached on the final details of the brief. It is now expected that the developed sketch plan will be completed in a matter of weeks and it will then be sent to the school authorities to enable them to seek planning permission.
