Vol. 395 No. 5

Written Answers. - Remedial Teachers.

Seán Power

Question:

80 Mr. Power asked the Minister for Education the number of schools of 280 pupils or more in areas designated as disadvantaged in Dublin city and county which do not have remedial teachers.

Of the 68 national schools with an enrolment in excess of 280 in the area in question, there are only four which do not have the services of a remedial teacher, but all of these have an ex-quota disadvantaged area post.

With regard to post-primary schools my Department allocated ex-quota remedial posts arising from various Government decisions on this issue on the basis of individual school needs rather than on the basis of geographic area.
