Vol. 395 No. 8

Written Answers. - Road Works Allocation.

John V. Farrelly

Question:

72 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for the Environment the allocation, if any, he has granted to Meath County Council for road works under the western package under the local improvements scheme for 1990; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

On 7 February 1990, I notified county councils generally of State grant allocations for projects under the 1990 local improvements scheme. The grants may be used this year for projects in rural areas involving the improvement of non-public roads, including farm roads and bog roads, and minor land drainage works. The 1990 allocation to Meath County Council is £50,000.

In the period 1984 to 1989, State grants under the local improvements scheme were confined to farm road projects eligible for EC aid under the western package. The programme of LIS farm road projects under the existing package was completed in 1989.
