Vol. 395 No. 8

Written Answers. - Admission to Hospital.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

75 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Health when a person (details supplied) in County Kildare will be admitted for an operation to St. Vincent's Hospital, Dublin 4; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I would like to explain that the admission of a patient to hospital is a matter for the clinical decision of the consultant concerned and the hospital authority. The patient in question was seen at the out-patient department on 2 January 1990 and was placed on the surgical waiting list. I would suggest to the Deputy that the patient should return to his general practitioner who would be in the best position to stress the urgency of the case with the consultant involved.
