111 Mr. Leonard asked the Minister for Finance, having regard to the traffic problem created in Monaghan town due to flooding on the national primary route, if he will have funds provided to drain the connecting river to the Blackwater, approximately one mile for which there is an arterial drainage scheme in progress.
The drainage of the Shambles river, which is involved here, was considered by the Commissioners of Public Works for inclusion in the Blackwater (Monaghan) Catchment Drainage Scheme, but rejected at planning stage on economic grounds. Following the receipt of representations the Commissioners agreed to have the matter re-examined during the course of scheme works to see if circumstances would warrant the inclusion of some or all of the works required in the scheme. It is expected that this examination will be completed and a decision in the matter made shortly.
