Vol. 395 No. 9

Written Answers. - Greyhound Racing.

Michael Joe Cosgrave

Question:

124 Mr. Cosgrave asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will give the attendances at each of the greyhound parks in the country over the last five years.

I am advised by Bord na gCon that, as many of the greyhound tracks are privately operated, it has not been the practice to disclose attendances at individual tracks.

Aggregate attendances at greyhound racing in each of the last five years were as follows:— 1989, 550,000; 1988, 562,870; 1987, 548,981; 1986, 556,446; 1985, 603,113.

Question:

125 Mr. Cosgrave asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the surveys, if any, which have been carried out in relation to the operation of the greyhound industry in this country.

I have been advised by Bord na gCon that it commissioned surveys on (a) greyhound racing in the Dublin area in 1987 and (b) greyhound breeding in 1989.
