Vol. 396 No. 1

Written Answers. - Ewe Premium Scheme Eligibility.

Ivan Yates

Question:

101 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will consider raising the maximum number of ewes that can be claimed for payment under the ewe premium subsidy scheme where there is a father and son dual flock situation; and if he will clarify the maximum numbers currently applying in this regard.

There is no limitation on the maximum number eligible for ewe premium under the 1989 EC ewe premium scheme.

Under the 1990 EC ewe premium scheme, however, a producer in the disadvantaged areas can be paid full premium on the first 1,000 ewes only and half premium on the remainder while a producer outside those areas can receive full premium on the first 500 ewes only and half premium on the rest.

The question of how these restrictions should be applied in detail is being clarified with the EC Commission at present and I will inform the Deputy of the outcome of these discussions and how it affects the father and son dual flock situation he refers to as soon as possible.
