Vol. 396 No. 1

Written Answers. - Flooding Compensation.

Ivan Yates

Question:

103 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he has any proposals to compensate farmers for severe damage done to stock, losses of fodder, or buildings and equipment, due to storm damage where there was no insurance cover; if so, the way in which such compensation will be administered; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Taoiseach recently announced the establishment of a Cabinet subcommittee consisting of the Ministers for Finance, the Marine, the Environment, and Agriculture and Food to examine and report on the extent and impact of recent storm and flood damage as a matter of urgency. My Department are at present carrying out an examination in the agricultural sector and I hope to have a report for the Cabinet subcommittee shortly. Pending consideration of this report it would be inappropriate to make a statement on the matter.
