Vol. 396 No. 5

Written Answers. - Abolition of Death Penalty.

Patrick McCartan

Question:

72 Mr. McCartan asked the Minister for Justice if he will respond to the recent proposal of the editor of Garda Review that a minimum sentence of 25 years be imposed on those convicted of attempted murder of a member of An Garda Síochána on the abolition of the death penalty for such an offence.

I am aware of this proposal by the Garda representative association and it will be given full consideration in the context of the Bill which I have in preparation to abolish the death penalty.
