Bernard Allen

Question:

95 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Defence the number of arrests which have been made by the Army in the Border areas in each of the years from 1985 to 1989.

The answer is none. The role of the Defence Forces in the Border area is one of assisting the Garda Síochána when requested to do so. The exercise of the power of arrest in such circumstances is a matter for the Garda Síochána.
