Vol. 396 No. 9

Written Answers. - Garda Strength.

Theresa Ahearn

Question:

122 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Justice if he will fill the vacancies created by transfers and retirements in Garda strength in Cahir, County Tipperary; if he will outline his future plans regarding manpower for the Cahir superintendent's district; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Theresa Ahearn

Question:

123 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Justice the number employed in all Garda stations in south Tipperary and their ranks for each year from 1987 to 1990, inclusive; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 122 and 123 together.

Particulars of Garda strength assigned to stations in south Tipperary on 31 December in each of the years 1987 to 1989 and on 23 February 1990 are set out in the following table.
The allocation of Garda manpower to individual stations varies from time to time to take account of changing needs and circumstances. The Garda authorities inform me that the current Garda strengths at Cahir and other stations in the Cahir Garda District are adequate to meet present policing needs and that manning levels in the district will be kept under review in the light of overall resources and other demands on Garda services in the Tipperary Garda Division.
