Vol. 397 No. 1

Written Answers. - Stamp Duty.

Seán Barrett

Question:

55 Mr. S. Barrett asked the Minister for Finance if he will ensure that persons who are in the process of purchasing a house which is greater in size than is allowable for grant purposes and who have contracted, before the passing of the Finance Bill, to buy a house will not at some time in the future be subject to the 6 per cent stamp duty proposed in his recent budget speech.

I have received a number of representations about the implementation date of this change. The precise arrangements are being worked out at present and I intend to clarify the position shortly.
