Vol. 397 No. 2

Written Answers. - County Cork Storm Damage.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

28 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for the Marine if a detailed report has been submitted to him on the damage done to Union Hall Pier, County Cork, by recent storms; if he will give an estimate of the cost of the damage; and when corrective action will be taken in this case.

My Department's engineers have reported on the coastal damage which occurred as a direct result of the storms of December 1989 to February 1990. In addition, I had a very useful meeting with a deputation from County Cork concerning Keelbeg Pier, Union Hall, last week.

I am advised that Keelbeg Pier, Union Hall, County Cork suffered damage, estimated at £10,000, as a result of those storms. Maintenance of the pier and the undertaking of any necessary remedial works are primarily matters for Cork County Council.
