Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

Liam Aylward

Question:

127 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he has reinvestigated the unemployment assistance claim of a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny.

The person concerned renewed his claim to unemployment assistance on 27 November 1989. Following investigation, a deciding officer assessed his means at £51.54 per week. The means are derived from his one-third share of the family holding. As this assessment exceeds the maximum weekly rate payable in his case, he is not entitled to payment of unemployment assistance from that date.

He appealed against this decision and his case has been listed for oral hearing in the week commencing 2 April. It will be open to him to attend the hearing and give evidence on his own behalf.

John Fahey

Question:

128 Mr. J. Fahey asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason for the delay in having payment of disability benefit paid to a person (details supplied) in County Waterford; and when payment of same will issue.

The person concerned claimed disability benefit on 7 February 1990 by submitting a first medical certificate/claim form. This certificate is a notification of incapacity and payment is only issued on receipt of a second and subsequent medical certificate.

Further medical certificates were not received until 14 March when duplicate certificates covering the period from 14 February 1990 to 7 March 1990 were received.
A cheque for £271.70 covering the period to 7 March 1990 issued to the person concerned on 14 March 1990.
A further cheque for £16.39 in respect of pay-related benefit for the period 28 February 1990 to 7 March 1990 issued to him on 20 March 1990.

Ned O'Keeffe

Question:

129 Mr. E. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Social Welfare when arrears of a living alone allowance will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Cork.

The person concerned applied for the living alone allowance on 12 December 1989. She was awarded this allowance with effect from 19 January 1990 — the Friday following the date on which she complied with the condition of living entirely alone. Prior to that time, her late sister had resided with her and the living alone condition was not satisfied.

The appropriate allowance book with payable orders commencing on 19 January 1990, issued on 7 February 1990 to the pensioner's local post-office for collection. There are no arrears due to the pensioner.
