Vol. 397 No. 3

Written Answers. - County Tipperary Garda Strength.

Noel Davern

Question:

137 Mr. Davern asked the Minister for Justice the number of different superintendents of the Garda Síochána who have been stationed in Cahir and Tipperary districts respectively over the past 13 years; the duration of each officer's stay; the length of time for which both districts did not have a superintendent during those periods; if he is satisfied with such an arrangements; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

In the time available it is possible to give only the following information:

Cahir, in the period July 1977 to date, had ten different superintendents. The district was without a superintendent for three periods, one of 11 months and two of approximately two weeks each.
Tipperary, in the period July 1977 to date, had 12 different superintendents. The district was without a superintendent on three occasions, one of approximately ten weeks, one of two weeks and one of approximately eight weeks.
The assignment of superintendent to district officer posts is a matter for the Garda authorities who make every effort to fill vacancies for district officers as promptly as possible.
